Meet The Celebrated Hippop Artiste: Soorebia

Martin Soore, goes by the stage name Soorebia is a rap artiste, who blends his local Gurune (frafra) and Kasem languages of Upper East of Ghana with English language. He is an energetic performer who has perfected his stage craft through years of hard work and performance with live band.
Soorebia started his rap career some eight years ago in Bolgatanga where he made massive inroads with his mystical yet revealing lyrics exposing a musical prowess, which his contemporaries can only wish they had. His style of music is wordplay that is delivered with aggression in a blend of Frafra (Gurune), Kasem and English making him appeal to a wider audience.

Soorebia grew up in Bolga, attended Anglican basic school and proceeded to Notre Dame Minor Seminary School in Navrongo. He furthered his education in the University for Development Studies where he completed and graduated in December 2017.

Starting his career with a Bolgatanga based record label 7ireblaze, he released several rib cracking demos and mixtapes, which earned him street discipleship leading to the invention of the popular slogan “Tumaneh Gelesu,” However, his career shot to height when he formed an independent record label together with two of his colleagues, thus BBT Records. His dedication to the craft over the years has made him strive to attain bigger heights releasing club bangers and hot freestyles under his new movement #BBT (Bolga Boy thing) with a very talented producer – AzkonnaBeatz.

Soorebia has colaborated with Ayillah, Pure Akan, Nitchey Baeb, Onenira, Double T, Wanlov the Kubolor, Strongman, Leety, Ital, Zazzy Kundivi amongst others.

Soorebia won Best Hip Life artiste at the 2013 Upper East Music awards organized by A1 Radio in Bolga. He also got 5 Nominations in the first edition of Northern Entertainment Awards in 2016 – Best artiste Upper East, overall Best Artiste, Best collabo (with Ayillah), Best song Upper East and Best video. Here he won best song Upper East. He also won Best Artiste from Upper East in the 2016 Northern Music Awards in Tamale. His song ‘primus’ won best Hip Hop song of the week on Accra based Livefm Route 919 entertainment show hosted by Sammy Forson.

Soorebia has performed on many platforms. He has shared same stage with Stevo, King Ayisoba, Wanlov, Kwaw Kesse, Wiyaala, Fancy Gadam etc.
So far he’s been a phenomenon on radio stations in the savanna regions especially around Bolgatanga, but since the release of “Primus”, he has enjoys airplay on YFM and other radio stations in Accra and other southern media as well as nightclubs across the country.
In 2016, he staged his first ever musical concert dubbed – Kiimakinna Concert in Bolgatanga. The concert was well attended by 1000s of people from and Around Bolgatanga. The concert was staged again in 2017 which saw even more people attending than the first edition. In June 2017, he was the headline artiste in the maiden Bolga Meets Wa musical concert held in Wa in the upper West Region of Ghana.
Soorebia has been working hard, collaborating with artiste in and outside the region and he’s gaining recognition anywhere he goes. He has been positively reviewed by bloggers and entertainment pundits and writers in and beyond Ghana.
